ATEMSP formed during the 84th Texas Legislative Session (2015).
A grassroots effort convened in Austin to support SB 1899, a bill expanding paramedic scope of practice in emergency rooms and urgent cares. The EMS professionals arrived as strangers but successfully lobbied SB 1899 through both the House and Senate. The bill was signed into law on June 19, 2015.
During the process, the group found that the individual EMS provider was without an organized advocate. The grassroots assembly organized the Association of Texas EMS Professionals to ensure the individual provider would be professionally represented during all subsequent legislative sessions.
The individual Texas EMS professional has been successfully represented during the 84th, 85th, and 86th Legislative Sessions.
The mission of the Association of Texas EMS Professionals (ATEMSP) is to advocate for and serve the Texas EMS Professional by providing tangible member benefits, legislative representation, professional networking and educational advancement.
